Family Therapy

Families are the foundation of our emotional lives. They shape how we see ourselves, how we relate to others, and how we move through the world. When these relationships are strong, they can be an incredible source of love, support, and stability. But because families are made up of individuals with different personalities, experiences, and communication styles, they can also become places of tension, misunderstanding, and pain. Conflict, life transitions, generational patterns, or simply growing apart can all strain family bonds.

Family therapy provides a space where each member can feel heard and understood. It offers tools to navigate conflict, improve communication, and rebuild trust. Whether you’re addressing long-standing issues or navigating a difficult chapter, family therapy can help your family move from disconnection to deeper understanding and stronger connection. With support and commitment, families can grow together in meaningful and lasting ways.

Family therapy may be a good fit for your family if:

  • There is high interpersonal conflict among family members

  • During transitional periods of major life stressors such as divorce, moving, or major career or school changes

  • One or more family members has a chronic substance, medical, or psychiatric diagnosis

  • There is a family history of trauma

  • There are other inter-familial or intra-familial struggles around cultural differences, politics, sexuality, adoption, morals, personal values, or personal trajectory/long term goals

At Hamlet Therapy, clinicians Lucy Cutolo and Lauren Glazin offer family therapy.

Lucy completed a year long training program at the Ackerman Institute for the Family where she focused exclusively on therapy with families. Lucy has a particular interest in working with families navigating mental health challenges and especially families grappling with a new psychiatric diagnosis. While a psychiatric diagnosis may pertain to one member of a family unit, the whole family system must adjust and grow and family therapy can be especially helpful in the beginning stages of that journey.

Lauren's education was focused on family systems and the struggles that families can face throughout their lives. Lauren is well versed in family therapy and believes much healing can be done for everyone included during family therapy. Lauren uses play therapy techniques and a collaborative style in her family sessions to make sure everyone feels comfortable.

Whether your family includes adults, teens, young children, or special and unique dynamics, we're prepared to meet your individual needs and work with you toward greater connection.

For families with adolescents, our skills based class on Multi-Family Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is also available.
