Frequently Asked Questions

What is the first step?

Reach out to us at admin@hamlettherapy.com or use our contact page to schedule a free time with our intake coordinator to help us understand your needs. After the initial meeting, the practice founder will review intake notes and determine a best provider fit for treatment, both clinically and logistically. From there, you will be connected with the clinician to schedule an evaluation appointment where they are able to work with you to develop a treatment plan.

When and where do sessions take place?

We offer in person sessions in both New York City and Washington DC, as well as sessions over zoom, when indicated. Most sessions are held weekly for 45 minutes. However, session frequency and length is tailored to the individual needs of the client. Clinical office hours are generally offered Monday-Friday with availability outside of the typical work or school day.

How long does treatment last?

Typically, evidence-based treatments such as DBT, RO DBT, and CBT are meant to be targeted and focused on achieving the goals of the individual. Treatment length varies based on the number and complexity of goals, the motivation of the client and their family to do the work, and the severity of symptoms that the client is displaying. The goal, however, is to help individuals live their own lives over time without our assistance as they become more skilled!

Are sessions confidential?

As licensed therapists we abide by all HIPPA guidelines. If we are working with a minor, and feel as though our client is at risk for harming themselves or others, we will break confidentiality to support the child in the most ethically appropriate way possible. This will be with the child’s knowledge and ideally we would work together to inform the parent/guardian(s).

Do you accept insurance?

We do not accept insurance, however we do provide monthly paperwork detailing services rendered so that families may submit for out-of-network reimbursement should they decide to seek financial support.

How do I determine if insurance will reimburse me for therapy?

In order to determine if your insurance will reimburse you, our advice is either to call your provider directly to determine what out-of-network coverage they offer or to start your process by using our blue “Use Your Insurance” link in the bottom right hand corner of our website.

What are the costs associated with therapy?

Each clinician on the team has a standard evaluation, hourly, and 45 minute rate based on clinical experience/background in training - please inquire during our first (free of charge) call!

What form of payment do you accept?

We currently conduct all billing on a secure portal, therefore it is our policy to accept major credit cards in lieu of checks and cash.

What is the rescheduling and cancellation policy?

We request that cancellations be made at least 48 hours in advance. We reserve the right to charge for cancellations made within 48 hours of the session, however we understand that unavoidable events can take place and generally don’t charge for emergencies as per provider discretion.

Do you collaborate with schools or other professionals?

Yes. In working with clients we regularly collaborate with other healthcare professionals such as psychiatrists, general practitioners, neurologists, and other health professionals. For clients in school or college, we are happy to work directly with schools or school administration if needed, but it is up to client discretion.
