Laura is dedicated to building genuine relationships with her clients while also tailoring empirically-supported techniques to fit each individual’s specific needs and long-term goals. She brings warmth and compassion to her treatment style, ensuring that her clients feel supported and understood.
Laura Felman, LCSW, received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Marist College and her Master's Degree in Social Work from Columbia University. During her graduate training, Laura was a fellow of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Intensive Training program and completed her DBT Intensive Training. Her clinical internship took place at the Mood Disorders Center of the Child Mind Institute, where she delivered comprehensive DBT to children, adolescents and their families who were coping with emotion dysregulation.
In addition to gaining comprehensive DBT experience during her graduate training years, Laura also received extensive training in evidence-based individual, parent and group treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Behavioral Parent Training (BPT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Laura's commitment to enhancing her therapeutic capabilities led her to pursue post-graduate intensive training in Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT). This specialized approach targets disorders characterized by excessive self-control, including eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, and related anxiety and depression disorders. She is passionate about integrating RO-DBT into her practice to enhance her clients' psychological well-being, fostering receptivity and openness, flexibility in control, and improved intimacy and connectedness with others.
Throughout her career, Laura has accumulated extensive clinical experience across diverse settings and age groups. Presently, she concentrates primarily on adolescents and young adults, utilizing her extensive training to offer tailored coping skills that meet her clients' specific needs. Laura values the collaborative nature of therapy and is grateful for the ongoing lessons she learns from her clients as they journey towards improved mental health.
Laura brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in DBT and evidence-based therapies to her clinical practice. Her dedication to continuous learning and compassionate approach underscore her commitment to supporting the psychological well-being of her clients.
