Lucy Cutolo, LMSW Staff Clinician

Lucy has seen evidence based therapies help people to achieve profound personal change and begin living healthier and happier lives. Lucy also believes that creating an attuned and caring therapeutic alliance with her clients is instrumental in providing them the support they need to discover and facilitate that positive change.

Lucy graduated from the George Washington School of Law and spent over a decade working as an attorney in the New York County criminal justice system. During her tenure there, she spent much of her time working with families in crisis. This led her to pursue her master’s degree in social work, so she could work directly with the individual in a therapeutic setting rather than litigating in the courtroom. As a graduate student, Lucy received training at a community outpatient clinic at St. Vincent’s Hospital Westchester, as well as Silver Hill Hospital, a private psychiatric hospital that offers comprehensive Dialectical Behavioral Therapy in a residential environment for both adolescents and adults.

During her time at St. Vincent’s outpatient clinic, Lucy gained experience working with an adult client population that reflected the diversity of the community. These clients were experiencing a range of mental health challenges in their daily lives, as well as many living with co-occurring substance use disorders.

At Silver Hill Hospital, Lucy completed a nine month DBT graduate training program in one of the hospital’s transitional living programs. She served as a member of a multidisciplinary team whose work focused on clients with a significant history of poor emotional control, impulsivity, self-damaging behaviors, and interpersonal organization, many of whom had a primary diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder.

Lucy is also pursuing post-graduate training at the Ackerman Institute for the Family, a highly regarded training facility for family and couple therapists. She is currently enrolled in their dual program, a yearlong program that provides both academic classroom training as well as live clinical supervision for trainees working with clients at the institute's outpatient clinic.

Throughout her training Lucy has seen the transformative nature of evidence-based treatments as clients replace old, often destructive, coping mechanisms with healthier ones that allow them to form strong interpersonal foundations and healthy attachments, which Lucy believes are a fundamental need all people share. She is excited to be working at Hamlet Therapy where she can continue to improve her skills and help clients to achieve their goals.
